Trump’s legal worries extend far beyond charges in New York

Joe Tacopina, a lawyer for Trump, confirmed Thursday that he had been informed that the former president had been indicted on charges involving payments made during the 2016 campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter. The specific charges were not immediately made public.

Putin’s getting nervous about Russia’s sinking economy [Video]

Kremlinologists think it’s no coincidence that Russian authorities seized Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich just a day after he co-authored a Journal story on how Russia’s economy is “starting to come unone.”

Russia says Gershkovich was spying, which the Journal adamantly denies. It’s safe to believe the Journal because Russia passed a law last year that basically criminalizes what journalists do: ask questions about things the government doesn’t want anybody to know about.

That law focuses on anybody spreading information about the Russian military, which may apply to Gershkovich because he was reportedly researching a story on the Wagner

Torryn Rodgers and Julie E. Schwartz of Perkins Coie have entered appearances for Reddit, a social news network where users share content and comments, in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The complaint was filed Feb. 15 in California Northern District Court by Envisage Law Firm and Charis Lex PC on behalf of Jaime Rogozinski, creator of the r/WallStreetBets subreddit. According to the suit, Reddit banned Rogozinski as a moderator of the subreddit and opposed his trademark application for ‘WallStreetBets’ as a pretext to seize control from Rogozinski and monetize the community. The case, assigned to US District Judge Maxine M.

The daughter of former NBA star Dwyane Wade has finalized her legal transition after a Los Angeles judge granted her petition to legally change her name and update her gender marker on identification documents.

The 15-year-old, who came out as trans at the age of 12, has been using the name Zaya since 2020.

Her legal name is now Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade, according to a ruling filed Friday in Los Angeles and reviewed by People.

Do you have to pay for a software license when you buy the business – IPwars.com

It’s not an uncommon scenario: the client has bought a business, but some mission critical software is outdated and the license is not transferable except on payment of a fee. What do you do: Pay the fee or “save” the money and keep using it? Thawley J found that the licensor’s consent to some time to evaluate options meant Shepparton Partners (SPC) had an implied license but was infringed thereafter. Injunctions and $1,162,428.80 damages flowed.

I am guessing pretty much everyone in Australia at some point or another has experienced SPC’s canned fruit, vegetables or maybe fruit juices.

US Supreme Court won’t hear case regarding Arkansas’ anti-Israel boycott law

WASHINGTON — The US Supreme Court on Tuesday denied a request to hear a case involving an Arkansas publication and a state law requiring contractors to pledge not to Boycott Israel.

The Arkansas Times, through representation by the American Civil Liberties Union, sought an opportunity to appear before the nation’s highest court after a lower court ruling on an Arkansas law in which judges determined the statute does not infringe on the right of free speech as stated in the US Constitution.

Arkansas lawmakers passed a law in 2017 preventing state entities from entering agreements worth $1,000 or more with

Case Preview: Thaler v Comptroller-General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (Case ID: 2021/0201). – UKSC Blog

In this post, Rachel Free (Partner), Toby Sears (Partner) and Omri Shirion (Associate) of the CMS Intellectual Property team, preview the UK Supreme Court’s upcoming hearing of Thaler v Comptroller-General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks. This case concerns the treatment under the Patents Act 1977 (the “1977 Act”) of inventions created by artificial intelligence (“AI”) machines in the absence of a human inventor.

The Appellant, Dr Stephen Thaler, previously appealed a decision of the UK Intellectual Property Office (“UKIPO”) that two UK patent applications should be deemed withdrawn because they named an AI machine, ‘DABUS,’ as the inventor.
