On Tuesday 16th to Thursday 18th may the Court will hear the case of Polmear and another v Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, on appeal from [2022] EWCA Civ 12. The Court will consider whether an individual can make a claim for psychiatric injury caused by witnessing the death or other horrifying event of a close relative as a result of earlier clinical negligence. The hearing will begin at 10:00am in Courtroom 1.

This appeal concerns the tort of private nuisance (a civil wrong) in the context of a major oil spill. The question at issue is whether there is a continuing private nuisance and hence a continuing cause of action. This is an important question because it affects when the limitation period for the bringing of claims (which in English law for torts is normally six years) starts to run.

April 29 (Reuters) – The Twitter accounts of Indian broadcaster NDTV and the country’s ANI news agency were restored on Saturday after both said earlier in the day that their main Twitter accounts had been locked, without specifying a reason for the suspensions.

ANI’s restored Twitter handle tweeted that their account seemed to be functioning. “Inconvenience regretted for the temporary outage”, they said. NDTV’s Twitter account was also backed up.

Searches on Twitter for NDTV’s English service account @NDTV and the @ANI handle earlier in the day produced the message “This account

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The state Attorney General and Lea County have formally submitted their arguments in their legal fight over abortion. Clovis, Hobbs, Lea County and Roosevelt County all passed ordinances aimed at restricting abortion access. That prompted a challenge from the New Mexico Attorney General.

On Wednesday 5th April the Court will hand-down judgment in R (on the application of Pearce and others) v Parole Board for England and Wales [2023] UKSC 13. The court will determine two questions: (i) When the Parole Board is deciding whether or not to direct the release of a prisoner on license, can it only take into account accusations if they are proved on the balance of probabilities? (ii) Does the Parole Board’s “Guidance on Allegations” misstate the law on this issue? The hand-down will take place at 9:45am in Courtroom 1.
