The race for the Republican presidential nomination, once a two-man battle between former President Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, is getting more crowded.

Mon. Tim Scott of South Carolina, the Senate’s only Black Republican and a favorite of many GOP donors, declared his candidacy last week. A few nights later, DeSantis belatedly made his own candidacy official in a chaotic Twitter event. That brought the number of major candidates to six,

Lawsuit challenging DC noncitizen voting law moves to federal court

The lawsuit challenges the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022, which allows green-card holders and residents who enter or live in the country without legal permission to cast ballots in local races.

After the DC Council passed a bill allowing noncitizens to vote in local elections, a group of voters — including a previous Republican mayoral candidate for the District — sued the Board of Elections. That case has now moved to the federal court system.

Man holding anti-Fox sign

While Fox avoided a lawsuit, scholars believe the Dominion settlement puts the network in a tricky position with its audience.

A last-minute $787.5m (£634m) deal allowed Fox News to avoid a lengthy and potentially embarrassing defamation trial with US voting machine company Dominion.

In its $1.6bn lawsuit, Dominion alleged that Fox had damaged its business by spreading false claims that its machines had helped rig the 2020 election in Joe Biden’s favour.

While Fox swiftly declared the settlement a victory, the media empire was also forced to admit that “certain claims” it made about Dominion were false, potentially putting it

Fox News Host Confronts Lindsey Graham on GOP’s Abortion Position

Fox News host Shannon Bream pressed Senator Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, on Sunday about whether the GOP’s message on abortion was “costing the Republican Party.”

Anti-abortion advocates celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which last June overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark case that previously guaranteed reproductive rights to women across the United States, as a major victory. The ruling allowed states to make their own laws regarding the medical procedure, with many Republican-led states quickly moving to either ban or place significant restrictions on abortion in the months following the ruling.

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia’s highest court is considering whether the state’s restrictive abortion law is void because it violated US Supreme Court precedent that was in effect at the time when it was enacted.

A lower court judge last year ruled that the law enacted in 2019 was not valid because it was “unequivocally unconstitutional” at the time for governments to ban abortions before viability based on US Supreme Court precedent in Roe v. Wade and another ruling. Therefore, he
